We are honored to bring Sujen Manandhar’s Grandfather’s “Guru Cha” Legacy to the community of Toronto Ontario Canada. Nilah, meaning, “Pure Water” in Newari, is the result of many years of hard work and the first project from our Kathmandu Nepal test kitchen (DuckPunk Innovations).
Bhatti, meaning tavern in Newari, is a Nepali watering hole that serves food on small plates meant to be shared amongst friends. The Newars predominantly eat buffalo with a head-to-tail approach, and a waste nothing attitude. Guru Cha was famed for his spicy bbq duck which made him stand out from the crowd and Nilah will be bringing this family recipe back, Newars are notoriously known for their high quality Aaila (moonshine) which is arguably one of the strongest in the world. You will find a variety of local drinks in their bhatti, yet their curious nature will lead them to drink just about anything.
Nilah is our re-interpretation of Guru Cha’s Newari Bhatti, accenting it with Newfoundland culture. This unique combination brings together an ultimate fun drinking establishment with equal emphasis on drinks and food.
Our Bhatti food is focused on Newari style affordable small plates that change according to what’s fresh and in season. Our food is predominantly cooked over a Newari charcoal bbq with a great selection of vegetarian & vegan dishes, despite our large carnivorous menu.
Our Bhatti drink menu focuses on bringing back Moonshine culture to center stage, along with an awesome selection of whiskey’s and rum. We will always have a rotating craft beer menu featuring the small companies that don’t otherwise have the opportunity, and a full seasonal drinks menu.
Our Bhatti is a relaxed environment, a community based snack bar a place to unwind after a long day of work or simply, a place to make new friends.
